Solo Travel in East Asia: What Sparked my Solo trip?
Why East Asia?
Family and friends of mine have been traveling to parts of Asia for vacation, work, and studies. As they returned from their trips, they would talk about their experiences in these vast beautiful countries with diverse cultures. As a result, this sparked my interest in learning more and in wanting to visit Asia.
What’s important about referencing Travel in Asia?
Similarly to when speaking about Africa, it is important to acknowledge that Asia is a large and diverse continent. Being specific about the region and country in Asia is important, as the continent can be divided into five regions: Central Asia, East Asia, SouthEast Asia, Western Asia, and South Asia.
In my experience, East Asian countries, such as China, Japan, and Korea, and South East Asian countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, were always destinations that continuously came up. When I found a $500 round trip ticket from San Francisco to Hong Kong, I knew THIS WAS MY CHANCE.
How did I find a $500 round trip?
Surprisingly enough…I didn’t win a prize or points or miles, rather I used Google flights to search for affordable ticket prices to any destination, within a specific timeframe. This is how I came across the ticket, which I purchased on the airline carrier website.
How did I decide on what cities to visit?
Initially I had a LONG list of East and South East Asian countries I wanted to visit, but narrowed down the list to Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan. I’ve always looked forward to visiting Hong Kong, often referred to as the New York of Asia, Seoul, an energy rich city (where I spent 24 hours on a lay over and LOVED it), and Tokyo, filled with bright lights and home to Harajuku (how could I pass this up?!). I bought my ticket, booked accommodation, and was on my way!
